By Ono Yima The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, to account for a missing N500 billion from crude oil sales revenue between October and December 2024. Citing a recent World Bank report, SERAP noted that of the N1.1 trillion generated during the period, only N600 billion was remitted to the Federation Account, leaving N500 billion unaccounted for. In a Freedom of Information (FOI) request dated May 17, 2025, SERAP urged Ojulari to “identify those suspected to be involved, surcharge them for the full amount involved, and hand them over to the EFCC and ICPC for prosecution.” “There is a legitimate public interest in explaining the whereabouts of the alleged...

NIGERIA IS RADICALIZING THE IGBO, ONE INJUSTICE AT A TIME

Opinion
Image courtesy: CNN By Abolaji Rasaq OPINION THERE’S something about persecution that does two things to a people: it either breaks them, or it makes them beasts of survival. Ask the Jews.  For centuries, they were hunted, hated, and humiliated by empires. But they didn’t vanish. They evolved. They adapted. And today, the Jews are arguably the most powerful tribe in the world economically, intellectually, and politically. Ruthless when necessary.  They are unapologetic about their survival. Now, look at the Igbo. A tribe known for industry, resilience, and brilliance. A people who just want to live, do business, and thrive. But Nigeria doesn’t want that. Nigeria wants control.  Nigeria wants submission. And the one thing the Igbo have never known how ...

CHINA’S TRADE TRUCE WITH U.S. TRIGGERS COAL COMEBACK, DIMMING CLIMATE HOPES

News
By Ali Elias According to an article published by Reuters, a 90-day trade truce between China and the United States has triggered a sharp rise in container shipping demand, fueling a likely rebound in China’s industrial output—and with it, coal-fired power generation. Despite record-setting installations of wind and solar capacity—now surpassing thermal power installations—China’s renewables only met 22.5% of electricity demand in Q1 2025. Baseload sources like coal, gas, and nuclear remain essential for powering factories and stabilizing the grid. Following the truce announcement, bookings for container ships from China to the U.S. surged 277% within two days. Analysts say this signals an imminent spike in manufacturing, which will drive energy use and tilt demand back toward fos...
