JOE AJAERO, DSS AND FUEL PRICE HIKE

JOE AJAERO, DSS AND FUEL PRICE HIKE

Opinion
Tunde Rahman By Tunde Rahman BY the time the Department of State Services released Nigeria Labour Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, last Monday evening September 9, he had become contrite, remorseful and perhaps ashamed of his uninformed action. The labour leader was invited twice by the secret police and twice he failed to honour the invitation. As I learnt, during the second invitation, Ajaero even told the new DSS boss who telephoned him that he was traveling out of the country and could only honour the invitation on his return. What an insufferable arrogance! However, unbeknownst to him, at the behest of the police and Office of the National Security Adviser, which have been investigating him, the DSS had placed him on a ‘Watch list.’ For failing to honour the invitation...

Photo courtesy: Realnews Tyrese Haspil, the personal assistant who murdered and dismembered his former boss, Fahim Saleh, the founder of Nigerian ride-hailing company Gokada, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. Haspil, 25, was convicted of murder, grand larceny, and other charges in June for the 2020 killing of Saleh. Prosecutors said Haspil had stolen around $400,000 from Saleh's businesses before the murder. Saleh had hired Haspil as his assistant, but soon discovered that Haspil was embezzling funds. Despite this, Saleh gave Haspil a second chance, allowing him to repay the stolen amount over two years. However, Haspil continued to steal and eventually killed Saleh to avoid being caught. On July 13, 2020, Haspil attacked Saleh in his Manhattan apartment bui...

IGBOPHOBIA CONTINUES: LACONIC RESPONSE TO PROF. AHMED BAKO’S INAUGURAL LECTURE

IGBOPHOBIA CONTINUES: LACONIC RESPONSE TO PROF. AHMED BAKO’S INAUGURAL LECTURE

Opinion
Prof. Ahmed Bako By Prof. B. Chima Onuoha AS an academic that should have a better, broader and unbiased perspective on issues, and development activist, I deliberately avoid engaging in tribal and ethnic write ups. This implies that I hate ethnic profiling of any hue. While acknowledging that no ethnic group is perfect or infallible, the characteristics of all ethnic groups in Nigeria are in the public domain – particularly, those who struggle to earn their livelihood and those prone to entitlement mentality; those that embrace handwork, resilience and delayed gratification; and those idling away in their “whatever” belief or orientation, hoping that God will come down to solve their problems or give them wealth. For decades, some politicians, political jobbers, hatchet writers, ...

FOSAD decries anti-Igbo narratives in Prof Ahmed Bako’s inaugural lecture at Usman Danfodio University

Uncategorized
The Forum of Southeast Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has expressed its dismay at the content of the 50th Inaugural Lecture, titled “The Igbo Factor in the History of Intergroup Relations and Commerce in Kano: Opportunities and Challenges Revisited,” recently delivered by Professor Ahmed Bako at the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS). According to the group, Professor Bako misrepresented historical facts at various points in his lecture, and also engaged in typical Igbo profiling, teasing a xenophobic position that negates the integrative spirit of the Nigerian constitution. As an academic advocacy group in part dedicated to understanding the diverse peoples of Nigeria and the broader tapestry of Nigerian history, FOSAD says it had looked forward with great interest when Professor Bako...

AHMED BAKO: INTELLECTUAL MASTURBATION AS INAUGURAL LECTURE

Opinion
By  Ikechukwu Amaechi WHAT caught my attention when the flyer of the 50th inaugural lecture of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto surfaced in the social media late August was the theme: “The Igbo factor in the history of intergroup relations and commerce in Kano: Opportunities and challenges revisited.” The lecture, to be delivered by Ahmed Bako, a Kano-born professor of African and Nigerian history, triggered a sense of foreboding instantly because I guessed it would be a voyage in dog whistling, a pastime of ethnic irredentists across the country when dealing with their bête noire – Ndigbo. He proved me right. An inaugural lecture not only serves as an invaluable platform for professors to present their groundbreaking research, innovation, engagement...

Photo courtesy: BusinessDay Prof. Kehinde Tijani, a Professor of Surgery at the University of Lagos, has warned that a persistent penile erection lasting more than four hours is a medical emergency that can cause permanent erectile dysfunction if not treated promptly. In his inaugural lecture, Tijani emphasized the importance of seeking immediate specialist care for surgical intervention, stating, "A delay of more than 24 hours can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction." He also highlighted the need for early evaluation of males in couples experiencing infertility, saying, "Males account for at least 50 per cent of cases in couples with infertility. For couples experiencing infertility, the man should be evaluated first by doing a semen analysis." Additionally, Tijani call...

YORUBA  LEADER, GANI ADAMS, CRITICIZES TINUBU’S LEADERSHIP AS CRISIS LOOMS

News
The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, expressed deep concern on Tuesday, criticizing President Bola Tinubu's administration for being increasingly indifferent, insensitive, and unresponsive to the struggles of Nigerians. In an open letter titled "President Bola Tinubu, Time is Going," Adams lamented that the administration has disappointed the citizens, who are now unable to endure the worsening economic hardships. He said: “We have no regret that we were created to inhabit this geographical space in the West African axis of the African continent. “We are happy to be here because I don’t know any country in the world that God has blessed, in terms of natural and human resources, like Nigeria. “Obviously, past leaders, since 1960, disappointed Nigerians with the way ‘...
