The Nigerian Public Relations Week is the largest convocation of public relations professionals, policymakers, leaders of industry, and members of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management spread across 126 countries.
“As we inaugurate Nigeria Public Relations Week, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku FNIPR, and its members. We appreciate them choosing our state as the host for this significant event, and we are confident they will appreciate our warm hospitality.” said Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, governor of the State; through his X (Twitter) handle, as part of his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Week during the event
While addressing the attendees at the event, which has the theme, for this year, “Leveraging Public Relations as a Critical Asset for Nigeria’s Economic and Reputation Renaissance”, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, revealed that the State was chosen to host this year’s event following a rigorous process that involved many states which showed interest in hosting it.
He pointed at the rich history of the state and the contributions it has made to journalism as the key factor in their choice host for this year.
“It is a state that has consistently taken the lead in various capacities, and it is only fitting that it continues this tradition by hosting this significant event.”
Dr. Neliaku emphasized the broad scope of public relations (PR), noting its expansion beyond traditional methods to include various forms of communication, such as singing. “Singing, like any other form of communication, is crucial in PR. It communicates messages, evokes emotions, and builds connections,” he explained.
In addition, the NIPR President stressed the importance of reputation, calling it the “core asset of every individual.” He said that managing one’s reputation transcends mere management tasks.
“As we engage in this week-long celebration and reflection on our profession, let us acknowledge that public relations serve as the cornerstone for unlocking potential, bridging divides, and establishing a lasting legacy. Without a meticulously cultivated reputation, enduring success remains elusive,” Dr. Neliaku concluded.
