NCDMB OUTPERFORMING OTHERS AS THE BEST MDA IN NIGERIA-FG

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has continued its winning streak as the most performing MDA in Nigeria in terms of efficiency and transparency. Coming next in the ranking is the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) trailing in the third position.

This was made known by Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) on Sunday when it released its Business Facilitation Performance Results for 2023.

In the PEBEC ranking, NCDMB scored 70.07%; SON, 69.5%; while CAC got 65.1%. The others in the top position are Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), 65.04%; and Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), 63.51%. The ranking period covers January to December, 2023.

In declaring the result, the agency urged the MDAs to take measurable steps to improve their performance within the 2024 reporting period.

“With only 10 MDAs scoring above 50 per cent and a weighted average score of 34.87 per cent across the 39 MDAs, strategic measures to enhance sector-specific metrics will need to be prioritized. These MDAs must take concrete steps to improve efficiency and transparency ratings before the end of the 2024 reporting period.

“Most importantly, MDAs should as a matter of urgency set up BFA Implementation Reform Committees. These committees will be responsible for steering BFA implementation initiatives in the MDAs, accelerating the strides taken in promoting a culture of transparency and accountability.

“This will be in furtherance of the implementation strategies of the eight-point agenda of the administration of President Bola Tinubu, designed to boost economic reforms for sustained inclusive growth across all sectors,”

PEBEC is a Council established by the Federal Government. It was set up 2016 to monitor Nigeria’s business environment and provide interventions. Its mandate includes removing bureaucratic and legislative constraints to doing business and improving the perception of the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

Jumoke Oduwole, the President’s Special Adviser on PEBEC and Investment, noted that PEBEC has consistently published compliance reports over the past seven years, analyzing monthly reports from MDAs. She explained that an MDA’s EO1 performance score is determined by efficiency and transparency measures in a 70 to 30 percent ratio. Efficiency measures involve compliance with service delivery timelines and EO1 directives, while transparency is assessed through website updates, online service portals, detailed service information, timelines, costs, statutory requirements, and customer service contact details.
