Fifteen personnel of managerial and supervisory cadres from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG) Limited on Monday commenced a weeklong specialised training at the Nigerian Content Academy (NCA), the knowledge-sharing and training arm of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
The training programme, which is being held at the 17-storey Nigerian Content Tower (NCT), Swali, Yenagoa, focuses on the operational framework that guides the NCDMB in determining how contracts are awarded in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, how people are trained under Human Capacity Development (HCD) programmes, and how value is retained in-country.
Representing the Director, Capacity Building Directorate (CBD), Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, the General Manager, NCA, Ms. Doris Opuwari, stated that the training is guided by the motto of the Academy: Learn, Practice, Impact. According to her, “We will look closely at the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, the role of the NCDMB, and the processes that every company in this country must understand and follow.”
She emphasised that participants would not just sit through slides for the duration of the programme, but would “work through real cases from the midstream sector, handle exercises on the Nigerian Content Plan, qualification and compliance requirements, and discuss what works and what gets in the way in their day-to-day work.”
She noted that the Academy was holding a training for a midstream company for the first time and expressed confidence that each of the participants would leave with a clearer understanding, practical tools, and an action plan for their respective teams. While urging them to freely challenge ideas and share their own experiences, she pointed out that some of the best lessons would come from the participants, and not necessarily the resource persons.
The NCA Manager thanked the NLNG Management for their trust and support, and the facilitators as well as Academy team for the care and hard work they put into preparing the programme.
Among other activities of Day 1 were a guided tour of the Nigerian Content Tower, and site visits to the NCDMB 10-megawatt Gas Plant at Elebele, on the outskirts of Yenagoa, and the NCDMB Training Centre along Opolo-Elebele Road, Yenagoa. The training continues until Friday.
