NCDMB, SEPLAT MOVE TO POWER ODUKPANI OIL AND GAS PARK WITH 2.2MW GAS PLANT

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Seplat Energy, has carried out a joint inspection of gas-powered generators being constructed to supply electricity to the Nigerian Oil and Gas Parks Scheme (NOGAPS) facility in Odukpani, Cross River State.

The inspection visit, conducted at the Lagos yard of Mantrac Nigeria, focused on two 1.1-megawatt gas engine power plant generators currently under construction as part of the Odukpani Gas Generator Project.

According to the NCDMB, the inspection forms part of the Capacity Development Initiative (CDI) embedded in Seplat Energy’s support for the project, which is designed to strengthen the Board’s technical and operational capability to deliver reliable power infrastructure for the industrial park.

The delegation from the NCDMB was led by the General Manager, Strategy and Transformation Projects, Ms. Amanda Yekorogha, who was accompanied by senior officials involved in the development of the oil and gas park initiative.

Other members of the delegation included Engr. Tom Mewase, Project Manager for the Conference Hotel Project; Mr. Kamselem Mohammed, Manager, Facility; and Mr. Joseph Adebayo, Manager, Zonal Coordination.

Also present during the inspection were Dr. Zuwarait Asekome, Teleola Oyeleke, and Boma Torty, alongside technical representatives of Seplat Energy participating in the capacity development programme.

The Odukpani power project is expected to provide dedicated electricity supply to the industrial facilities being established under the NOGAPS initiative, a flagship programme designed to stimulate local manufacturing and deepen Nigerian participation in the oil and gas sector.

Officials said the gas engine generators, with a combined capacity of 2.2 megawatts, would serve as a key component of the park’s energy infrastructure, ensuring stable and efficient power for businesses operating within the facility.

The Capacity Development Initiative supporting the project is also intended to enhance the operational expertise of NCDMB personnel by providing practical exposure to the design, fabrication and installation processes associated with modern gas-powered generation systems.

Industry stakeholders note that reliable power supply remains a critical requirement for the success of industrial parks and manufacturing clusters across Nigeria, particularly those linked to the oil and gas value chain.

Through the NOGAPS programme, the NCDMB aims to create integrated industrial hubs where small and medium-scale manufacturers can produce components and provide services required by the petroleum industry, thereby reducing dependence on imports and strengthening local content development.

The Odukpani Oil and Gas Park, located in Odukpani, is one of several parks being developed across the country to support Nigeria’s strategy of expanding domestic industrial capacity within the energy sector.

Officials say the ongoing collaboration with Seplat Energy reflects the increasing role of private sector partnerships in delivering infrastructure projects tied to Nigeria’s local content objectives. When completed, the generators are expected to support the operational needs of companies within the park while contributing to broader efforts to promote industrialisation and job creation in the Niger Delta region.
