Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening professionalism in Nigeria’s media industry with the successful conclusion of the 2026 edition of its #NLNGChangeYourStory capacity-building workshop in Abuja.
Thirty-two journalists drawn from various media organisations participated in the three-day workshop, which ended on Wednesday, and focused on equipping media practitioners with practical skills for navigating the rapidly evolving digital newsroom, particularly the growing influence of artificial intelligence and new media technologies.
The workshop forms part of NLNG’s broader stakeholder engagement and corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at building institutional capacity and promoting excellence within Nigeria’s media ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Mrs. Sophia Horsfall, described capacity development as a core pillar of the company’s CSR strategy. She said the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative is designed to empower journalists with the tools and confidence needed to produce professional, credible and impactful content in an increasingly fast-paced, technology-driven media environment.
“Journalism is a calling that informs, educates and influences society,” Horsfall said. “We believe that by investing in the skills of journalists, we are strengthening the quality of public discourse and supporting a media sector that can effectively contribute to national development.”
She encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop to broaden their reach, enhance audience engagement and amplify stories that reflect NLNG’s vision of being a globally competitive energy company committed to improving lives sustainably.
Horsfall also highlighted NLNG’s wider support for the media sector, citing initiatives such as the NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME), among others, as part of the company’s long-standing engagement with journalists.
Earlier, in her opening remarks, the Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at NLNG, Mrs. Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, said the company is deliberate in its investments to raise professional standards in Nigerian journalism.
“This workshop went beyond theory to address the real pressures journalists face in a digital newsroom, including speed, verification, audience trust and relevance,” she said. “Our support for these competencies is aimed at nurturing a resilient media ecosystem that produces accurate, impactful journalism capable of shaping public understanding and contributing to national progress.”
The workshop featured hands-on sessions facilitated by digital communication specialist Dan Mason and the Journalism Clinic led by veteran media practitioner Mr. Taiwo Obe. Participants were trained on practical approaches to digital storytelling, data visualisation, online fact-checking, audience engagement and effective digital presence management.
Since its inception, the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative has empowered more than 180 journalists across multiple editions, reinforcing NLNG’s role as a consistent partner in advancing media capacity and professionalism in Nigeria.
