Newly redeployed Commissioner pledges stronger public enlightenment on government policies
ENUGU, NIGERIA — The newly redeployed Commissioner for Information, Enugu State, Malachy Agbo, has called on the staff of the ministry to intensify their efforts in ensuring that the public is professionally, promptly, and effectively informed about government programmes and activities.
Speaking during his maiden meeting with the management and staff of the ministry, Agbo emphasised that his assignment was to strengthen public awareness, enlightenment, and understanding of the administration’s numerous interventions across key sectors. These programmes, he said, were intentionally designed to improve the living standards of the people under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
“The Enugu State government led by Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is doing a lot to improve the lot of Ndi Enugu. Therefore, it is our duty to ensure that the people of the state are inundated with good governance news,” Agbo said.
“We must disseminate information across all channels, engage the public, and ensure that facts are not distorted by mischief makers. Everyone in this team has experience and strength that will enable us to deliver on our mandate.”
The commissioner pledged to identify and address areas hindering the ministry’s optimal performance through careful scrutiny and possible reassignment of duties, harnessing the full capacity of staff to achieve greater results.
Expressing appreciation to Governor Mbah for entrusting him with the role, Agbo assured that he would work in close synergy with all staff to ensure the timely delivery of accurate information to the people of Enugu State.
The meeting was interactive, with Agbo urging staff to remain resilient, dedicated, and united in discharging their responsibilities.
Responding on behalf of the management and staff, the Head of Department, Administration and Supplies, Ugochukwu Adimora, pledged full support to the commissioner in achieving the government’s goal of keeping the public informed about its policies and programmes.
Other top management staff at the meeting included Chukwuemeka Nebo, HOD, Photo and Films; Ugwuoju Michael, HOD, Finance and Accounts; Nnamuchi Christiana, HOD, PRS; Ngozi Ogbogu, HOD, Archives and Digital Records; Anthonia Okafor, Public and Graphics; Comr. Cletus Eze Chinyelugo, HOD, Public Affairs; and Cynthia Okeke, HOD, Legal.
Agbo’s remarks signal a renewed push for strategic communication in Enugu State’s governance. In an era of misinformation and digital disinformation, effective public enlightenment is crucial for bridging the gap between government policies and citizens’ understanding. If the commissioner’s call for teamwork and professionalism is met with action, the ministry could become a model for responsive governance communication in Nigeria.
