In a move poised to revolutionise road safety and service delivery in Nigeria, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has unveiled a mobile application aimed at streamlining driver’s licence renewal and vehicle verification processes.
The mobile application, aptly named “FRSC Mobile App”, is designed to bring critical safety tools and services closer to Nigerians by leveraging digital convenience. The Corps described the initiative as a bold step towards enhancing public access to real-time road safety information, eliminating bureaucracy, and ultimately saving lives on Nigerian roads.
Speaking during the unveiling, Assistant Corps Marshal and FRSC Spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, emphasised that the innovation goes beyond technology. “The Mobile Application is not just a convenience tool,” he said. “It is a strategic intervention to enhance national safety consciousness and reduce preventable road traffic crashes.”
In a country grappling with frequent highway fatalities and road-related challenges, the FRSC sees the new app as a powerful resource. “It is no longer acceptable to be uninformed when the tools for protection and compliance are within reach,” Ogungbemide added.
Available for free download on the Google Play Store, the app offers a suite of services previously locked behind cumbersome processes. These include:
– Driver’s licence renewal without the need to visit physical offices
– Vehicle and number plate verification
– Real-time safety alerts, including speed violation notifications
– Black Spot detection to help avoid crash-prone zones
– Streaming of National Traffic Radio (107.1 FM) for live traffic updates and emergency advisories
Ogungbemide highlighted that the application is a comprehensive solution developed with road users in mind. “With a few taps on a smartphone, road users across Nigeria can now enjoy end-to-end access to FRSC services, right from the comfort of their homes, vehicles, or offices,” he said.
The app’s capabilities also extend to logistics companies and fleet managers who often struggle with verifying the legitimacy of licences and registration details in real-time.
However, the success of this digital shift lies in how fast and how well the public adopts it. “This is more than a technological upgrade,” Ogungbemide noted, “It’s a strategic response to the growing need for real-time access to FRSC products and timely traffic intelligence.”
To that end, the FRSC is urging motorists, commuters, fleet operators, and the general public to download and start using the app without delay.
The launch of the FRSC Mobile App is a commendable development—one that reflects Nigeria’s gradual but meaningful embrace of digital solutions in public administration.
