PETER OBI CONDEMNS BRUTAL ATTACKS IN EBONYI, DEMANDS SWIFT SECURITY ACTION

In a statement released on his X page, Presidential candidate of Labour party in 2023 General Elections, Peter Obi has strongly condemned the recent violent attacks in Ebonyi State, which have claimed at least 15 lives and left many more unaccounted for. The attacks targeted the communities of Amagu, Amaokwe, and Umunesha in Nkalaha, Ishielu Local Government Area, marking yet another grim episode in what Obi described as a disturbing pattern of violence across Nigeria.

“I have just been informed of yet another unpleasant news of the recent attacks on the communities of Amagu, Amaokwe, and Umunesha in Nkalaha,” Obi stated. “This brutal invasion has led to the tragic loss of at least 15 innocent lives, with many others still unaccounted for.” He went on to highlight that such acts of brutality and the wanton destruction of lives and property are a profound affront to the nation’s collective humanity and a serious threat to the peace and stability we cherish.

Obi extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the entire Nkalaha community. “Your pain is our pain,” he remarked, emphasizing that the loss experienced by the community serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The former candidate called on security agencies to act swiftly and decisively. “The perpetrators of this barbaric act must be apprehended and brought to justice without delay. We cannot and will not tolerate impunity,” he warned. Obi stressed that the safety of every Nigerian is paramount, regardless of location or status.

In addition to urging robust action from law enforcement, Obi called on community leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to remain vigilant and work closely with security agencies. “We must stand united against these agents of chaos and work together to restore peace and security in our land,” he urged.

This statement comes amid growing concerns over recurrent violence in various parts of Nigeria, fueling debates on the nation’s ability to safeguard its citizens and the urgent need for comprehensive security reforms. While investigations into the latest incident in Ebonyi State continue,  security agencies and local authorities have pledged to intensify efforts to locate those missing and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may we find the strength to forge a path toward a more secure and harmonious Nigeria,” Obi concluded.
