In a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s export capacity and economic growth, the Managing Director/CEO of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, welcomed the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), Dr. Philip Mshelbila, to the NPA Headquarters in Marina, Lagos, on Monday, January 20, 2025. The meeting underlined the critical collaboration between the two entities in driving the nation’s export expansion goals.

During the visit, Dr. Mshelbila acknowledged the NPA’s crucial role in supporting NLNG’s operations and emphasized the need for enhanced synergy as the company ramps up its liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity to meet rising global demand. “We deeply appreciate the NPA’s unwavering support, and as we expand our LNG production to align with global energy needs, we look forward to stronger collaboration to facilitate seamless operations,” Dr. Mshelbila remarked.

Responding, Dr. Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to fostering export-driven economic growth. He noted that the directive from the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, places a strategic focus on supporting Nigeria’s export-oriented agenda. “Guided by this mandate, we assure you of our steadfast support. NLNG has been instrumental in Nigeria’s economic development and export growth since its establishment, and we are committed to growing this partnership,” Dr. Dantsoho stated.

This meeting comes at a time when Nigeria is celebrating significant strides in foreign trade. According to the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), the country achieved a trade surplus of 5.81 trillion naira (approximately 3.7 billion USD) in the third quarter of 2024. This achievement, largely driven by exports, highlights the pivotal role of the NPA’s infrastructure and operational efficiency in facilitating trade activities.

The collaboration between NPA and NLNG underscores the strategic importance of Nigeria’s energy sector in sustaining the country’s economic momentum. With global demand for LNG projected to increase, NLNG’s expansion efforts, supported by the NPA’s robust port operations, are poised to position Nigeria as a leading player in the international energy market.

As both organizations deepen their partnership, stakeholders are optimistic that these efforts will not only enhance export capacities but also solidify Nigeria’s standing as a major hub for global trade and economic growth.
