For as long as there is life on earth, and for as long as the true nature of man continues to be under the clouds, our views on abortion would continue to be polarized. Daggers would continue to be drawn between those who are for, and against, abortion. Nevertheless, there are a few things we ought to know. Or consider.
Some people’s strong point in arguing against abortion is the fact that movement and pulse beat can be observed in a foetus. “What crime has your child committed to deserve to have its arms and its legs pulled off of its body and its head crushed in the womb?” Gabriel Olivier rhetorically questioned during a recent rally of opponents and supporters of abortion in Mississippi, USA. That’s highly emotive.
However, emotion has nothing to do with reality; for emotions sometimes bother on ignorance. Such was the case with the position of the early church authorities with whether the earth was flat or round; and the relative position of the earth with sun. It agitated the human mind and caused incalculable damage until truth, late in coming from the rather sluggish march of science, stamped out the rage of ignorance.
Surely, science, with its slow pace at unearthing and validating reality, is still digging at the issues around abortion. Before it arrives at our shores with its findings, let’s consider abortion from another perspective.
If we understand the nature of ourselves, it would be plain that Soul which is to become the sole occupant of the body (foetus) can animate the body by hanging or hovering around the pregnant woman, or from any distance.
This fact is not anything strange. We activate our cars and other electro-mechanical devices through remote controls. On a lighter side, in Africa, Psychics can control someone miles away. I learnt it was so in European countries some centuries back. Reality is the same whether it is approached from the side of physical sciences or spiritual science. However, one may be slower than the other’ but both are valid paths into the unknown.
Whether the body is in another body, as in the case of pregnancy, or independent of another body when the baby has been delivered, or even reached any level of maturity as a child or adult, the fact is unchanged about a particular body and the Soul that is using it. Soul animates a particular body when it identifies with it, in this case, the foetus, or when it permanently takes possession at child birth. When it terminally leaves the body, the former foetus, hitherto body, dies, being without its animating factor. Or Spirit, which is what Soul, is.
Discover one truth and you are close to discovering the others.
A house under construction is not yet a habitable place. It is not expected to have an occupant. The building in-progress could be stalled at any time for any number of reasons and remains undelivered, uncompleted, for as long as the reason for halting it persists. Only devious people can occupy such a place.
While the construction is progressing, the owner could occasionally come for inspection, and the whole place would be somewhat animated. The place would at that time witness a flurry of activities. Yet that does not mean the house is ready for occupation.
At any stage of the construction, the building can be pulled down. Aborted! This pulling down, aborting the progression of the construction from coming into visible reality could be by accident, by malicious act of others, or by the willful act of the owner who no longer wants it. In all these cases, nobody is killed since nobody is yet living in the building. Even though an amount of resources has gone into it.
There are rare cases where the building under construction collapses and the owner who was there at that opportune time dies in it. However, this is vastly different with Soul, the would-be occupant of the foetus- the biological building under construction. Soul, being individualized spirit, is never hurt nor can it be killed. Death in adults demonstrates that; in which soul simply takes its flight from the body.
We have seen building, beautiful ones at that, that has seen completion, yet the owner declined to live in it, for whatever reason best known to him. The owner then takes up residence in another place within the area, or another region entirely.
Still births are simply the individual Soul refusing to take up residence in that body, that foetus, for a variety of reasons. What happens in that case is that the body would be lifeless. Medical doctors would give a hundred and one reasons for still births, but if investigated deeper, the reason would be as clear as a crystal ice.
In all the scenarios above, it is obvious that pulling down a building under construction, or refusing to take up residence in a completed building, does not amount to killing the would-be occupant of the building, anymore than aborting a foetus would amount to killing Soul that would have used, lived in, and animated the body for its designed lifetime.
The issue of whether for or against abortion should weigh more on the side of the woman considering the health implications and choices of a thing known, the woman; rather than the thing that we do not yet know, the foetus.
Does it mean then that abortion should be a free reign? That would be looked at in the next article.
