Uyi Osemewegie has been rewarded with the star prize of a brand-new 2022 GS3 SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) for coming tops at the just concluded Golf Tournament sponsored by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). The game which took place on Sunday at the IBB Golf Course, Abuja, is to kick start the 2023 Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week, organized by DMG Events. The car was part sponsored by GAC Motor.
Among the winners in other categories at the tournament are, Longest drive (Ladies): F. Wada; Longest drive (Men): Adokiye Ikpoki; Best nett (Ladies): D. Mamza; Nearest the pin (Ladies): F. Wada; Nearest the pin (Men): Joe Poroma; Best nett (Veterans): Y. M. Sanusi; while the Lowest Gross went to Mohammed Sulaiman.
About 90 elite golfers, made up mostly by stakeholders in the energy and related sectors competed for the prizes.
“We want people to exercise, we want people to keep fit and hence, we sponsor this event to get that excitement before the main NOG,” stated the NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote while speaking on the relevance of the tournament to the NOG Week; adding, “this is because you walk almost 8 kilometers in a round of golf; and we know what walking brings to the system.”
An enthusiast, and a player, of the game, the Executive Secretary had promised, during the earlier edition, to make the game, through tourneys, a permanent feature of events organized by the Board or directly involved in as a major stakeholder.
In line with this, he expressed hope that the golf tournament will be kept alive by the organizers of the NOG event because of the excitement it brings to golfers and participants at the conference.
Speaking on the main NOG conference, which began with the Nigerian Content Seminar on Monday, July 10, Wabote revealed that “the main idea behind the conference is to listen to policy makers and provide opportunity for networking.”
To him, the oil and gas industry is key to turning around the fortunes of Nigerian economy; saying that “if you start to focus on the oil and gas sector, you need to focus on Nigerian businesses, making them active participants in the oil and gas business.”
