The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has commenced a specialised human capacity development programme aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, marking a significant step in the country’s local content drive.
The programme, which focuses on Integrated Pipeline Pigging, Corrosion Control, and Monitoring, was formally flagged off at a kick-off ceremony for the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC-HCD) Training Selection Test Result for Topline and Nexus Alliance in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, FNSE, the Manager, Human Capacity Development, Mrs. Tarilate Bribena, delivered the keynote address, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s energy future.
According to the Board, the 12-month training programme is designed to equip selected trainees with critical, industry-relevant skills required to enhance pipeline integrity and operational efficiency within the oil and gas value chain.
“This initiative is more than just a training; it is a deliberate effort to build capacity, empower Nigerians, and strengthen our energy infrastructure,” the Board stated.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited and Topline Limited, underscoring a collaborative approach between regulators and industry players to address skill gaps in the sector.
Pipeline pigging and corrosion control are critical to maintaining the integrity of Nigeria’s extensive network of oil and gas pipelines, which are often exposed to operational wear, environmental factors, and security challenges.
By focusing on these specialised competencies, the NCDMB aims to deepen indigenous participation in technical operations while reducing reliance on expatriate expertise.
The Board emphasised that the programme aligns with its broader mandate to develop local capacity, promote technology transfer, and ensure sustainable growth in Nigeria’s energy industry.
Participants are expected to undergo intensive theoretical and practical training over the next year, positioning them to contribute meaningfully to the sector upon completion. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by NCDMB to drive innovation and human capital development as key pillars for achieving long-term national development within the oil and gas industry.
