The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has emerged overall champion at the 20th edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG), concluding a week-long competition in Abuja that showcased athletic excellence and corporate unity across Nigeria’s energy sector.

The biennial tournament, which ran from February 8 to 14, 2026, brought together major players in the oil and gas value chain, reinforcing a tradition of collaboration beyond commercial operations.

NLNG topped the final medal table with 52 medals — 20 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze — overtaking defending champions Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), which finished second with 49 medals comprising 14 gold, 15 silver and 20 bronze.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) secured third place with 18 medals, while TotalEnergies placed fourth with 15 medals. Other participants included Seplat Energy, Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell.

Organisers described the 2026 edition as a milestone event marking four decades of sporting engagement within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, with participation from regulators, operators, service providers and educational institutions.

Leading the NLNG delegation was Deputy Managing Director Olakunle Osobu, who said the company’s performance reflected a broader organisational culture anchored on excellence and teamwork.

“This victory is a testament to the resilience, discipline and unity that define NLNG,” Osobu said. “Excellence is embedded in our culture and reflected in how we compete, collaborate and win — whether in business or on the field.”

He added that participation in industry sporting activities strengthens internal cohesion and promotes wellness across the workforce.

Industry observers note that NOGIG has evolved beyond a sports competition into a platform for informal corporate diplomacy, fostering relationships across the petroleum ecosystem in a sector often defined by complex partnerships and joint ventures.

Energy analyst Tunde Bayewu told Rareview News Report that such platforms play a strategic role in industry stability.

“Collaboration in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector extends beyond technical agreements,” he said. “Events like NOGIG reinforce trust, humanise corporate competition and build networks that support operational cooperation.”

NLNG’s victory comes at a time when energy companies increasingly position workforce wellness and corporate culture as integral components of productivity and sustainability.

With chants of Team NLNG echoing across the Abuja Stadium at the closing ceremony, the company’s performance reinforced its reputation as a leading operator not only in gas production but also in corporate engagement initiatives.

As Nigeria’s energy sector navigates evolving market pressures, industry stakeholders say platforms that encourage unity and healthy competition may play a meaningful role in sustaining collaboration across one of the country’s most strategic industries.
