In a major move to bolster Nigeria’s gas infrastructure and utilization, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), led by its Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, FNSE, convened a strategic meeting yesterday with the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), a subsidiary of NNPC Limited.
The meeting, held to explore collaborative opportunities, was attended by NGIC’s Managing Director, Mustapha M. Anas, and other top executives. According to a statement released by the Board, discussions “focused on NGIC’s request for funding support to scale up key infrastructure projects, particularly those connecting the northern, eastern, and southern regions to reliable gas supply.”
Highlighting the Board’s successful partnership with Betagas, Engr. Ogbe noted that it serves as a model for gas development in underserved regions. “The Executive Secretary highlighted NCDMB’s ongoing partnership with Betagas as a successful example of gas development initiatives in underserved regions,” the statement read.
In a gesture aimed at ensuring broader industry inclusion, Engr. Ogbe also “inquired about NGIC’s engagement with smaller gas companies and emphasized the importance of fostering inclusive growth in the sector.”
Reiterating NCDMB’s commitment, Engr. Ogbe assured that “the Board would review NGIC’s proposal in alignment with NCDMB’s mandate and objectives, with follow-up meetings planned to deepen the engagement.”
This strategic engagement, according to the Board, “reinforces NCDMB’s commitment to promoting local content and enabling sustainable energy infrastructure for national development.”
The importance of this collaboration cannot be overstated. Nigeria’s aspirations to harness its vast gas reserves for economic growth depend heavily on expanding the nation’s gas infrastructure. By bringing together public and private stakeholders, the NCDMB and NGIC are setting the stage for a more connected and energy-secure Nigeria.
