In a stark display of confidence in the current administration, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that disgruntled Nigerians are free to protest while he and other supporters of President Bola Tinubu’s government will continue to reap the benefits of their leadership.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Akpabio made it clear that he and his allies are committed to backing the government, even as they acknowledge the economic challenges facing the nation. With his characteristic candor, Akpabio declared, “the whispers of our nation are already receiving attention” but “those who want to protest can protest.”
“We are not interested in regime change. Let us own this government. Those who want to protest can protest. But let us be there eating,”
He appealed to Nigerians to give this administration a chance
“As the Senate president, I want to appeal to all Nigerian youths to give this administration an opportunity for most of the policies to mature” he pleaded, adding, “So the whispers of our nation are already receiving attention. The economic challenges are known to the president because all of us feel the impact of what is happening now.”
