Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned that a direct clash between Russia and NATO could dangerously escalate global tensions toward a potential World War Three, as reported by Reuters.
Putin’s remarks follow his claimed landslide victory in Russia’s presidential election, where he secured 87.8 percent of the votes. However, criticism from countries such as the US, Germany, and the UK has surfaced, alleging the election lacked fairness due to the detention of political opponents and media censorship.
Addressing reporters after the election, Putin remarked, “It’s evident to all that such a scenario would bring us dangerously close to a full-blown global conflict. I doubt anyone truly desires such an outcome.”
The possibility of deploying ground troops in Ukraine, previously hinted at by French President Emmanuel Macron, prompted questions about potential conflicts between Russia and NATO. Putin responded, “In today’s world, all scenarios are conceivable.”
Furthermore, Putin acknowledged the presence of NATO personnel in Ukraine. He also emphasized Russia’s readiness for nuclear conflict, warning that any US troop deployment to Ukraine would heighten tensions significantly.
French President Macron, however, cautioned against making threats, particularly considering Russia’s nuclear capabilities. He mentioned a lapse in direct communication with Putin but emphasized its necessity during critical junctures.
Meanwhile, US officials downplayed concerns about Russia’s intentions regarding nuclear weapons, stating they had not observed any such plans aimed at Ukraine.
